The Best Christmas Movies You Didn’t Know You Needed to Watch!

Everybody knows that the Christmas spirit is ahead of us. Colorful jumpers, bright lights on every corner and Christmas decorations in every shop cheer us up and bring out the celebratory feeling that we all crave, especially in winter! 

This time of the year is not joyful for everyone. From stressful assignments to that painful homesick feeling most of us international students know all too well, this season can be overwhelming. But don’t worry, because you are not alone! Make a hot chocolate, put on your best christmas jumper, and watch this list of movies for an intimate, cozy and holly-jolly feeling you have been craving for so long!

Operation Christmas Drop (2020)

The American movie “Operation Christmas Drop” is ranked in three categories: romantic, family and comedy. This film is actually based on the real-life U.S. Air Force Operation Christmas Drop, a humanitarian mission! A classical love story evolves between a congressional assistant in Washington D.C. Erica, who is tasked to investigate a US Air Force base in Guam (a territory of the United States in the Pacific Ocean, ed.), and Andrew, an Air Force captain. Despite their very different personalities , as time passes by, they get to know more about each other. Perhaps they may even start to like each other.

Holidate (2020)

Who isn’t fed up with being single during the holidays? The romantic comedy begins with two strangers meeting in a shopping mall. On the one hand, Sloane is the only single woman in her family and gets judged by her mother who is continuously trying to find her a match. On the other hand, Jackson is stuck in a relationship with a girl he isn’t truly into. The acquaintance of these two will begin as a simple arrangement: to save themselves the misery of family judgement by fake dating each other during the holidays. However, their deal will evolve into something even bigger…

The Holiday (2006) 

This movie is a true classic, starring Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet. Two women, tired of their current lifestyle and navigating very unlucky love lives, try to find a gateaway via website. They end up exchanging houses and thus lives. They both meet some friends and maybe even love. These two separate stories take place on Christmas Holidays and give off the coziest, most romantic, and joyful vibes. It’s called a classic for a reason!

Dash & Lily (2020) 

This is a miniseries with only eight episodes of 30 minutes. It tells the story of a platonic love story, in which two teenagers exchange their hopes, dreams and desires through a notebook, without knowing each other in real life. Changing locations all across decorated New York city to find the notebook, this series awakens that Christmas feeling and cheer you really long for this time of the year.

Love Hard (2021)

A sweet and charming romcom with a very relatable plot that everyone will adore, is found in the movie “Love Hard”. An LA girl is having trouble finding her true love. During Christmas Holidays, she falls in love with a guy that she met on a dating app, only to discover later that…he is a catfish!

Little Women (2019)

A classic novel comes to life in this movie. A beloved story that reflects on family, friendship and love. It centers around four young sisters: Meg, Joe, Beth and Amy, each determined to live their lives by their own rules. A beautiful coming of age story which makes us reflect on our own dreams.

Love Actually (2003) 

“Love Actually” is said to be the ‘ultimate romantic comedy. Different people each navigate love, heartbreak and friendship in this iconic celebration of the festive season. This movie is based in London, one of the most festive cities and was described by box-office as a worldwide success!
